DISABLED STUDENTS LINK (DSL)

Job Title: Disabled Students Link
Elected by: Regional Forum

Main Purpose
To be accessible to and to provide information, assistance and support for disabled students within their region, where required, to enable them to overcome regional problems related to disability issues affecting their ability to study with the Open University.

Key Tasks

To establish and maintain links with Regional Offices and liaise and work with Regional Office on regional disabled student issues.
To be the obvious contact for disabled students, Branch Officers, Regional Forum, Executive Committee Member for the region and OU staff with regard to regional disabled issues.
To provide relevant and appropriate information to disabled students on regional issues.
To receive and progress information from disabled students on disability problems within their region.
To liase with the Student Support Link for their region on disabled student issues which may be relevant to students in other regions.
To provide regular reports on disabled students support issues within regions to The Regional Forum if there is one, the Open University committee in their region, to the Student Support Link and to the Vice President Student Support .

Desirable Qualities

Knowledge of OU systems, OUSA Structure and disabled student issues
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Good telephone and listening skills
Good communications skills, in particular the ability to speak in committee situations.

Attendance at Regional Forum Meetings

Attendance at The Open University Committee Meetings in their Region
